Since my first blog, I can say my confidence in writing went from 10% to 80%. Learning how to write better has definitely been accomplished in this class. For I still have a lot to learn and I will be taking English 1-B (I think it's the next class up). Throughout this class, I have evolved. My writing has evolved. I have learned to identify the purpose of my writing. I have learned to always ask myself "what am i trying to prove'? What is the argument? Writing my last research paper, I was nervous. Taking step by step directions from the teacher was very helpful. They say I say book for writing and learning how to phrase things has been very helpful. The rhetorical triangle has been so helpful. The speaker, audience, and message have helped me communicate better and understand how to communicate. Proofreading is also very important before submitting your work, making sure you follow Orwell's rule to be clear. Watching all of the asynchronous discussions. Having the ...

Today I, Lori Kuma, wrote a research paper. I would never have been as motivated if I didn't have an English teacher who was so encouraging. (and I am not just saying that) My professor is so involved and literally walking me through it at my last conference. I was so embarrassed with my rough draft. The information was there but it was just so mumbled jumbled. The assignments my professor gave us has taught me how to write a better research paper. Like I said I was not happy with my rough draft. But I am so happy with how my revised paper came out! On to the FINAL.

Today's blog is all about Essay 3. I am feeling very overwhelmed. I have all this information I have been learning and I don't know how to put it into words. Overwhelmed is an understatement. It is very easy for me to complete quizzes where I can find the answers in reading or complete a small assignment. But when it comes to writing, for some reason it becomes very difficult for me. In chapter 7 So what? who cares? I didn't really understand what it was telling me to do. And how do I incorporate that into my essay? I have started the introduction of this rough draft and I have brainstormed a little bit but as far as the rhetorical appeals, I am also a little confused. I am definitely ready to write an essay with my argument that Athletes should not travel during covid. I will research different stats and put that in the essay. But like I said we have just been learning so much and it's a lot for me right now. I am excited to see tomorrow what I can accomplish.

Week 11 was very interesting in reading chapter 6 and learning about how not everyone is going to have the same opinions as you. How to respond to this is a positive way with evidence is very important. All the templates they give me in chapter 6 help me respond in that "positive" way. I really liked answering back to Jessica and giving her my counterpoints about her thesis. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to answer until Sunday night and I hope she got my counterpoints because I believe they are good and she can use them in her essay. Also, when she gave me her counterpoint number 2 was agreeing with my thesis and I wasn't sure how to answer that because I thought she was supposed to counter it? I am really nervous for next week to write a rough draft. Yes it's very easy for me to complete these tiny assignments that I am starting to understand. But I am very nervous about having to write a whole essay. But then again I feel like I am nervous going into every week. ...

This week was a great week. I learned all about MLA format. I took a lot of time on the quiz to answer all the questions. I am continuing to learn more about MLA format. The annotated bibliography was easy using the citation website to help me cite the information I researched. After doing some research my mind is conflicted about how I feel about sports teams traveling during covid. For my reading response, I was very happy with how I responded to my classmate using a template. They help me with the correct grammar and better wording. I really enjoyed learning about citations this week and I hope I am doing them right. I am nervous about writing a whole essay and having to insert citations. That's my concern at the moment. Do I use "quotations" on each thing that I'm citing? I feel a bit confused but hopefully, I will understand it as we go. Bring on week 11. Thank you to my teacher for all his extra help. Excited to learn more about this next week.

This week we are learning more about the thesis concept. I am confused as always but continuing to work my hardest and conquer one thing at a time. I listened to your video and take notes about shaping a Thesis but thinking about how to put it all together makes me nervous. But I know I will get it done. I was a little confused about the week 9 thought question. I understood they were talking about natural disasters but it was hard for me to understand the question "what is the position" question. I forgot to do my quote that was due Thursday night :( but I remembered today and got it done. Better later than never! I will probably talk you this week about learning about the thesis more and incorporating it into our essay. I am excited for next week and to see where it takes me!

I have to admit I was a little nervous coming into this week because there are new assignments we are doing. I was able to figure it out and I kind of guessed the answers. I kind of understand it. I understand that "they say" the other people's opinions in Balkos writing. Is that right? and the I say is what the author opinions are. Right? But it was still hard for me to pinpoint the exact "They say" parts. I probably got them wrong in the first part where we had to high light the "they say". I wish we had this English class on campus. I feel like it would have helped me understand better. But I am doing the best I can and I don't think I am working Wednesday night so I can join my teacher's Office Hours next week,
